FIFA President Gianni Infantino has

 condemned the violence that took place during Brazil and Argentina's FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, 21 November. Violent clashes took place between the Brazil police and the travelling fans at the iconic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, with the police lathi-charging the fans, several of whom were with their families. Chaos ensued behind one of the goalposts as fans tried to jump onto the pitch to escape the wrath of the police. The match was halted for half an hour with the players trying to calm down the situation and then eventually going back into their dressing rooms.
